Capturing Anna Gutto: Portrait of a Norwegian‑American Filmmaker
I recently photographed Norwegian-American director Anna Gutto, best known for her feature debut Paradise Highway, starring Juliette Binoche and Morgan Freeman. She’s now preparing to release her next project, the gripping Norwegian drama Escaping Bolivia.
Anna’s background spans theater in both Oslo and New York, Netflix’s Home for Christmas, a number of award-winning short films, and an MFA from Columbia University’s Drama School. Her career bridges countries and genres, with a clear focus on character-driven storytelling.
Our portrait session took place in my Oslo studio. The goal was to capture both sides of her personality—her thoughtful, grounded presence as a director, and her playful, fun spirit. The resulting images reflect the range she brings to every project, from serious dramatic narratives to more lighthearted work.
Anna has split her time between Norway and the US (just like I do!). It was a joy to collaborate with someone whose creative path reflects a similar rhythm—moving between cultures while remaining grounded in strong artistic vision. Stay tuned for more images from this shoot as they are released!
If you’re a creative professional in need of portraits that feel editorial, cinematic, and personal, I’d love to connect.
